Cometsissa on tänä vuonna ennätysmäärä jäseniä, lähes 1400!

Myös tänä vuonna Cometsin jäsenet Aaron and Iida-Loviisa Koivunen tulivat maailmanmestareiksi Boogie Woogie junioriluokassa. Onneksi olkoon! Seuraavaksi he siirtyvätkin kilpailemaan jo aikuisten sarjassa.

Tanssi on tutkitusti yksi kokonaisvaltaisimmista liikunnan muodoista – se vahvistaa kehoa, virkistää mieltä ja lisää yhteisöllisyyttä. Tule mukaan ja ilmoittaudu kevätkauden kursseille.

1. Ilmoittaudu kevätkauden kursseille

Jäsenmaksulaskut lähetetään automaattisesti tammikuun ensimmäisenä päivänä.

Moe Sakan & Vincenzo Fesi ovat swingtanssimaailman arvostetuimpia tanssijoita ja opettajia, jotka ovat tulossa valmentamaan meille lindy hop ja balboa kursseja Helsinkiin! 

Viikonlopun ohjelmaan sisältyy bileitä levy- ja livemusiikilla. Lauantai-iltana lavalle nousee legendaarinen Antti Sarpila Swing Band, ja saamme nauttia opettajien Vincenzon ja Moen upeasta esityksestä. Ilta alkaa pre-party -tunnilla, jonka vetävät paikalliset opettajat Teemu Hirsimäki ja Minna Marttila.

Kursseille kannattaa rohkeasti ilmoittautua jonoon, vaikka haluamallesi roolille ei olisikaan tällä hetkellä tilaa. Jonosta pääsee kurssille, sitä mukaa kun vastakkaisen roolin osallistujia ilmoittautuu jonoon. Huomaathan, että ilmoittautuminen on sitova, kun olet saanut paikan kurssille.

4. Comets Cup 6.1.2026

Tervetuloa perinteisiin matalan kynnyksen Mix&Match kisoihin loppiaisena Comets salille Triplaan!

6.1.2026 15:00 - 19:00 Tripla, Comets-tanssisali

Cometsin jäsenille ilmaisiin kisoihin voivat osallistua myös Cometsin ulkopuoliset ilman jäsenyyttä 5 eurolla.

Näissä matalan kynnyksen kisoissa kaikissa Cometsin lajeissa voi kokeilla kilpailemista vaikka ensi kertaa. Osallistua saavat aivan kaikki tasosta riippumatta. Rock'n'roll duossa, pareissa ja formaatiossa ilmoittaudutaan oman parin/joukkueen kanssa ja kilpailijat toimittavat oman musiikin arto.latvala@comets.fi. Jazz rootsissa ja rock'n'roll soolossa kilpaillaan soolona.

Voit kilpailla viejänä, seuraajana tai "Kumpi vain" roolissa. Paritanssilajeissa on mix and match eli parit arvotaan paikan päällä ennen kisan alkua - et siis tarvitse omaa paria osallistuaksesi kilpailuun.

Ilmoittaudu ennakkoon ja tule ajoissa paikan päälle tarkastamaan, tuleeko lajiin riittävästi ilmoittautumisia ja toteutuuko lajin kisa. Kisanumeroiden jako alkaa klo 14:20 ja päättyy klo 14.50.

Jos et halua kisata, tervetuloa katsomaan ja nauttimaan kilpailuista sekä tanssimaan iltatansseja kilpailuiden päätteeksi!

5. Ehdota vuoden cometslaisia

Tiesitkö, että Cometsissa ei ole yhtään palkattua työntekijää tekemässä seuran päivittäistä toimintaa?

Seuran toimintaa pyöritetään 100% vapaaehtoisten voimin ja rakkaudesta lajiin. Yksikään kurssi tai tapahtuma ei järjestyisi ilman vapaaehtoisten arvokasta panosta.

Seuratoiminnassa riittää sopivia tehtäviä jokaiselle halukkaalle: toiselle sopii valmentaminen, toiselle viestintä, hallinto, talous tai vaikka kisatalkoolaisena toimiminen. Kaikkia tarvitaan ja kaikki ovat yhtä tervetulleita!

Kaikkein parasta seuratoiminnassa on vapaaehtoistyön merkityksellisyys, yhdessä tekeminen ja samanhenkisiin ihmisiin tutustuminen.

Näytä arvostuksesi seuran vapaaehtoisille ja ehdota vuoden cometslaisia! Vaikka ehdottamasi henkilö ei voittaisikaan, pelkkä ehdotus jo lämmittää saajansa mieltä. Ehdotetut saavat tiedon ehdokkuudesta ja perusteluista.

Vuoden cometslainen tunnustusta jaetaan kolmessa eri kategoriassa: 

• vuoden seuravalmentaja
• vuoden kilpailija
• vuoden seura-aktiivi

Lomake on auki 31.12.2025 asti.

Hallituksen järjestäytymiskokouksessa jaetaan tehtävät tammikuun toisella viikolla.

Vapaaehtoisia tarvitaan ainakin markkinointi- ja viestintävaliokuntaan sekä juniorivaliokuntaan, tule mukaan tekemään Cometsin toiminnasta vielä parempaa ja näkyvämpää! Ilmoittaudu kirjeen lopussa olevan linkin kautta.

7. Tanssin eettinen ohjeistus - Turvallisuus ja muiden huomioiminen

Meidän kaikkien tulee huomioida sekä tanssiparimme että muut tanssilattialla olevat. Jos vahingossa kosketat tai satutat ketä tahansa toista henkilöä, pyydät sitä heti anteeksi.

Taivutukset, akrobaattiset liikkeet ja lähiote: Jos musiikki mielestäsi rohkaisee tavallista läheisempään tanssiotteeseen tai muuhun tavanomaisesta poikkeavaan toimintaan kuten taivutuksiin, heittoihin tai nostoihin, sovi asiasta aina etukäteen parisi kanssa. Kenenkään ei koskaan tulisi tanssiessa päätyä tilanteeseen, jossa he saattavat tuntea olonsa epämukavaksi tai turvattomaksi. Huomaathan, että turvallisuussyistä taivutukset ja akrobaattiset liikkeet eivät kuulu sosiaalitansseihin – niille on omat paikkansa jamiringeissä, näytöksissä ja kilpailuissa.

8. Vuoden Tanssiurheiluteko 2025

Suomen tanssiurheiluliiton Vuoden Tanssiurheiluteko 2025 -palkinnon saivat Rock’n’Swing Dance Club Comets ry, Tanssiseura Marimba ry ja Tanssiseura Swing Team ry  yhteistyöhankkeestaan Dancesport Championships 12.-13.4.2025.

Perusteena oli kolmen seuran yhteinen ponnistus ja onnistunut yhteistyö niin keskenään kuin Liiton kanssa. Neljän kilpailun (2 x SM, PM ja World Cup) järjestäminen sekä RS-lajien ja vakiotanssin yhdistäminen samaan viikonloppuun sai hyvää palautetta kilpailijoilta ja katsojilta.

Vuoden Tanssiurheiluteko -palkinto jaetaan vuosittain henkilölle, seuralle, joukkueelle tai ryhmälle, joka erinomaisella ja merkityksellisellä tavalla edistää tanssiurheilun sekä seuratoiminnan hyvinvointia, yhteisöllisyyttä, yhteishenkeä ja yhteistoimintaa.

"Olemme kiitollisia tästä upeasta huomionosoituksesta ja kiitämme Suomen Tanssiurheiluliittoa ja kaikkia seurojen jäseniä, jotka olivat mukana tekemässä tätä mahtavaa tapahtumaa huhtikuussa!", sanoo Cometsin puheenjohtaja Susanna Ritala.

9. Sopimusehtojen päivitys

Seuran sopimusehtoihin on tullut muutoksia kurssien peruutusehtoihin. Päivitetyt sopimusehdot koskevat 1.1.2026 jälkeen alkavia kursseja.

Aaron ja Iida-Loviisa Koivunen voittivat kilpailun junior sarjassa.

Pari oli myös koko vuoden World Cup - kisojen ykkönen.

Juho Päivinen ja Ida Keränen tanssivat boogie woogie main finaalissa viidenneksi.

As a member of the association, you are eligible to participate in our dance courses and events.

Lindy hop ja balboa weekend - Moe & Vincenzo 27.2.-1.3.2026

Moe Sakan & Vincenzo Fesi are two of the most respected dancers and teachers in the swing dance world. They coach Lindy Hop and Balboa courses for us in Tripla. The weekend also includes parties. At Saturday’s main party, the legendary Antti Sarpila Swing Band will take the stage. Additionally, see Vincenzon and Moe’s outstanding performance. The party starts in the pre-party class with local teachers Teemu Hirsimäki and Minna Marttila. Read more here. Registration is open in myClub.

Feel free to register for the courses, even if there is currently no space for the role you want. You will be added to the course as participants once participants in the opposite role register for the course.

4. Comets Cup 6.1.2026

Welcome to the traditional Mix&Match competition at the Comets dance studio in Tripla!

Competitions are free for Comets members, and non-members can participate with a 5€ fee.

In these competitions, you can try competing in all Comets dance styles. These competitions are a great opportunity for first-timers. Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of their level. In a rock'n'roll duo, pair, and formation, you register with your own couple/team. Rock’n’roll competitors also provide their own music and send it to arto.latvala@comets.fi before the competition. In jazz roots and rock’n’roll solo you compete solo.

During the sign-up, you are asked if you like to dance as a leader, follower or “Both are ok” -role. There is a mix and match in couple dances, meaning couples are drawn on the spot before the start of the competition, so you don't need your own partner to participate in the competition.

If you don't want to compete, you are welcome to watch and enjoy the competitions and dances. Between the competitions, there will also be social dancing for everyone to enjoy.

5. Propose the Comets members of the Year

Did you know that Comets does not have any paid employees running the club's daily operations?

The club's operations are run entirely by volunteers, driven by their passion for the sport. No course or event would be possible without the valuable contribution of volunteers.

There are enough suitable tasks in the club's activities for everyone: some are suitable for coaching, others for communications, administration, finance, or even working as a competition volunteer. Everyone is needed, and everyone is equally welcome!

The best thing about the club's activities is the significance of volunteering, working together, and getting to know like-minded individuals.

Show your appreciation for the club's volunteers and propose the Comets members of the Year!

Even if the person you nominated does not win, the mere nomination warms the recipient's heart. Those nominated will be informed of the nomination and the reasons for it.

The Comets Member of the Year award is given in three different categories:

• The club coach of the year 
• The competitor of the year
• The club active of the year
  Form is open until 31.12.2025.

The tasks among the board members will be divided in the second week of January.

Volunteers are needed at least for the marketing and communications committee and the junior committee. Come join us in making Comets' operations even better and more visible! Register via the link at the end of the letter.

7. The code of conduct: Safety and care

Floor craft: We all need to be considerate of our dance partners and all others who share our space. If we accidentally touch or hurt anyone, we apologise immediately.

Dips, aerials and close embrace: When the music, in your opinion, calls for more physical closeness or something more unusual, like dips or aerials, discuss it with your partner first. Dancing should not put anyone in a position where they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Note also that dips and aerials do not belong on the social dance floor due to safety reasons – they have their own designated places in jam.

8. Terms and Conditions updated

Some changes have been made to the Comets course terms and conditions regarding the cancellation policy. The updated terms and conditions apply to courses starting after January 1, 2026.

9. The sports act of the year 2025

The Finnish Dance Sports Federation's Dance Sport Achievement of the Year 2025 award was given to Rock’n’Swing Dance Club Comets ry, Tanssiseura Marimba ry and Tanssiseura Swing Team ry for their collaborative project Dancesport Championships 12-13.4.2025.

The award was based on the joint effort and successful cooperation of the three clubs, both among themselves and with the Federation. The organisation of four competitions (two Finnish Championships, the Finnish Championships, and the World Cup) and the combination of RS disciplines and standard dance on the same weekend received good feedback from competitors and the audience.

The Dance Sport Achievement of the Year award is awarded annually to a person, club, team or group that promotes the well-being, community, togetherness and cooperation of dance sports and club activities in an excellent and meaningful way.

"We are grateful for this wonderful recognition and thank the Finnish Dance Sports Federation and all the club members who were involved in making this great event happen in April!" says Comets chairman Susanna Ritala.

6.12.2025, Krakow BW World Cup

Aaron and Iida-Loviisa Koivunen won the competition in the junior category.

The pair also finished first overall in the World Cup competitions for the entire year.

Juho Päivinen and Ida Keränen danced to fifth place in the Boogie Woogie main final.
